Sadie Green Sales

Ragtime Jug Band

at Hendy Avenue

Elementary School

Students and teachers are invited on stage to perform with David and Timothy. Students include Ollie Rehman, Matt Brewer, Lauren Mahalko and Alex Asortan.

Hendy Avenue Elementary School in the Elmira School District was recently host to Sadie Green Sales Ragtime Jug Band. Timothy Walker and David Driskell form SGS and are a colorful duo of singer/composer/musicians who have mastered, not only a myriad of "conventional" instruments such as guitar, banjo, clarinet, saxophone and flute, but even household items such as the washboard, musical saw, washtub-bass, jugs and spoons.

They present a highly entertaining and participatory program featuring music of the Mississippi from 1900-1930. They rely on over a quarter century of professional experience. They stress the history of the origins of Ragtime, Dixieland and Jug Band music as well as the concept that music is fun. Sadie Green Sales has received rave reviews, not only from students and teachers in the United States, but also from schools in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and England.

The students and staff at Hendy Avenue certainly give them two thumbs up!

The SCT Boces Arts in Education Directory lists over 75 outstanding artists who are highly qualified and  prepared to perform, give workshops and do residencies in schools. Because there are too many artists to include all on this web-page,  one or two artists may be highlighted each month. If you have news of an artist you would like featured on this page, please notify the Arts in Education Program Specialist.
